Patriots' Chris Hogan Shoulder Injury
In the fourth quarter of the Patriots’ needlessly tight victory over the hapless Los Angeles Chargers in Week 8, emerging star receiver Chris Hogan suffered a shoulder injury and was seen after the game with his arm in a sling. He is slated for an MRI on the joint sometime Monday, and his status going into the Patriots’ Week 9 bye will be clearer in a day or two.
Should the Chris Hogan shoulder injury prove serious, New England could be in trouble. In the first eight games of the season, Chris Hogan has been on pace for a career year. He has 33 receptions for 438 yards and 5 touchdowns. Because of his production this year on a team beset by injury, Hogan has been viewed as an important component of Tom Brady’s continued success on the offensive side of the ball (which has had to carry the team most games this season).
If the Hogan shoulder injury causes the wide receiver to miss any action down the stretch, the Patriots are by no means out of weapons, but their road to home-field advantage throughout the NFL Playoffs will be a bit more difficult. The remaining eight games of their schedule include two tilts against the 5-2 Bills, a matchup against the 6-2 Steelers, and two games against the 4-3 Dolphins (who always seem to win one them). With any luck, the Patriots will be ready to play in Foxboro when the 3-3 Broncos come to town in Week 10, and – whether Hogan is in or out – SportsBettingMassachusetts thinks the Brady Bunch should be favorites in that one.

And while you’re there, take a look at the sportsbook’s NFL Futures board, where New England is still the overall favorite at +350 to win Super Bowl LII (which is a decent payout considering that they’ve won about 30 percent of all Super Bowls since Tom Brady took over the reins back in 2001).
